Dear friends
My mate Pat and I are riding from London to Paris on our bikes on 2nd September, to help the Pace Centre, a charity we are very proud to represent.
The photos show me with Dan, who is a star! Dan is 7 years old and is one of the children of close friends of ours. Dan goes to school every day at The Pace Centre, which helps children with such disabilities as cerebral palsy. The Centre has made a massive difference to Dan and his family's life.
When Dan joined the Pace nursery in 2004 aged 3, he was unable to balance and support himself in sitting or standing. With the help of the amazing team at Pace, Dan can now sit unsupported on a bench, stand with support and walk with a bit of help. He is now a whizz on his computer which he uses to learn and communicate. He can use his hands to hold and pick up toys and can pedal his tricycle unaided.
The Pace Centre is an amazing place. It values the children for who they are and strives to give them the chance of an active and independent life. It is a happy and positive school where the children encourage and motivate each other and applaud each other's successes.
I hope you will support me and help me to raise money for Dan's school. Their short term aim is establish funding for a permanent parent and child group (The First Steps Fund http://www.thepacecentre.org/firststeps.html) as early intervention is vital if others are to afforded opportunity to progress as Dan has. £2,000 will provide a child with a year’s intensive therapy. The school currently receives no government funding for pre-school classes.
When I'm struggling on the bike and think I've had it, I'll remember the day Dan & I mucked about on our bikes and I'm sure it will keep me pedalling all the way to the Eiffel Tower!!
Thank you all for your support.
Neil
