------------------------------------------------------ 2 years since crossing England in 2 days, the memories of the pain have subsided and Simon Hewlett and Robert Highley are getting back on their bikes for a new challenge. Inspired by Mark Beaumont’s recollection of his latest expedition, combining long-distance cycling and mountain climbing, the new challenge consists of crossing Scotland at it’s widest point in 3 days, with a hike up Ben Nevis in the middle to add a new dimension (and a few hours off the saddle!!!). A total of 247 miles of cycling from Fraserburgh on the 9th of August through Inverness and Fort William, finishing in Fionnphort on the Isle of Mull added to the 9 miles of walking up and down Britains highest peak should ensure two very tired pairs of legs and a couple of very well earned pints at the finish line. The Next Step Trust has been selected as the charity for this challenge. The Next Step Trust provides a specialist centre for young people aged between 19 and 25 with complex needs and disabilities including moderate and severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties, ASD, sensory impairment and physical disabilities. As the numbers of wheelchair users at The Next Step Trust has increased, they are finding it increasingly difficult to transport Next Steppers to these external activities. A second minibus with a passenger lift is becoming essential and funds raised from this bike ride will go towards this.
Many thanks for your support.
Simon & Robert.
