Story
I'm 30 on 3rd October! I know, I can't believe it either. Seeing as it's a bit of a milestone, I wanted to do something special, so I'm asking that instead of racking your brains to come up with a suitably significant gift to mark this auspicious occasion, you would instead make a donation to this small but very worthwhile charity.
Child's i Foundation finds families for abandoned children in Uganda. Many abandoned children are not orphans, and Child's i traces and reunites families, supporting them so they are able to stay together. When they can't find a child's family, they find foster and adoptive families in Uganda so the child doesn't have to grow up in an orphanage. They run a transitional home (Malaika Babies Home) to care for the children while they find their families, and they also work long term with family support to stop children being abandoned in the first place, and work with the government to shape policy, so that this practice becomes more widespread.
You can find out more about Child's i through their website: http://www.childsifoundation.org/ and there are lots of ways you can get involved and support their work.
However much you give will make a big difference to the children Child's i care for. Here are a few examples of what your donation could buy at Malaika Babies Home:
£5 pays for their rubbish to be collected on a regular basis for a month, so the babies are kept in a clean environment.
£11 covers the cost of lunch and dinner for their 42 staff members for a whole month.
£15 feeds all the babies for a month, on a lovely diet of fresh fruit and veg!
£18 keeps all the babies in nappies for a month (that's 150 nappies each!)
£38 will pay a month's water bill.
£60 sends a child to school by covering tuition fees and essential items, enabling the slightly older kids to have a nursery education.
Thank you so much for helping me celebrate my birthday this way.
Love Nic xx
