HAIR TODAY, GONE TOMORROW
in aid of
Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charitable Trust, Northampton
Hello Everyone,
A few months ago my brother told me that he was going to be receiving chemotherapy as a result of some secondary cancer. I told him that if he loses his hair, I would also shave my head...
I told him this in the hopes that somehow he would be immune to the chemicals and his follicles would remain present and accounted for, however the odds were stacked against me and part way through the treatment he is now completely bald.
I cannot express to you enough how much I hate the idea of shaving my head. My hair is precious to me, it is thinning rapidly and I can do nothing to stop it. Seeing what I look like with virtually no hair is not something I wanted to do until my head decided it was ready. I am very scared that once I’ve shaved it off, it might not grow back and I also have a funny shaped head, which will look weird bald.
When I realised that I now must shave my head, I decided that as my brother had no choice, I too must take the decision out of my own hands and do some good in the process.
So I am handing the decision over to you generous people...
On Thursday 28th July, Ian at C2, Sheaf Street, Daventry will be shaving my head. My hair is already due for a cut, so 4 more weeks is going to make the result all the more shocking.
The more money I receive, the lower the grade of razor I will use...
By donating money, in aid of Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charitable Trust in Northampton, you will increase the total and in turn lower the grade of razor I use thus making me look more ridiculous and feel more self-conscious. By the time of my cut, my hair will be much longer than the top razor length so the thresholds are as follows:
|
Total Donations |
Clipper Grade |
|
£25 |
8 |
|
£50 |
6 |
|
£100 |
4 |

| £1000+ | 0 with a bic razor finish |
Ian at C2 has kindly agreed to cut my hair for free and donate my usual fee to the cause.

On a serious note, Cynthia Spencer Hospice admit approximately 400 in-patients each year and provide a service to the patients and their families to make their remaining days as comfortable as possible.
Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charitable Trust will use this money to pay for nurses to look after their patients, which in my view is by far the best way I can help Cancer Patients. They have to raise £704,000 this year in charitable donations alone and your money here will help them succeed.
You work hard for your money, so any donations will be greatly appreciated. You might donate because of the cause, you might donate because you’re a friend and like what I’m doing, you might donate because you don’t like me and want to see me looking stupid, or you might donate because you have a couple of quid in your pocket and nothing to do with it today. Whatever the reason, there are four ways to donate to this cause:
1. Go to www.justgiving.com/nicholas-coe and follow the links to donate.
2. Send a text to 70070. The text must include the code NICK83 followed by your donation (£1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10)
3. If you know me, simply hand me the cash and I’ll make sure it goes towards the total.
4. If you are in Daventry, drop in to C2, get your hair cut and stick a couple of quid into the pot on the counter.
Often is the case that you don’t get to see the fruits of a charitable donation, but in this case you get a good month of ridicule at my expense for looking like Uncle Fester. I really hate this idea...
Thank you all in advance of your generous donations...
Nicholas Coe
nb: The total is calculated from money donated only. Gift aid does not count towards this total, it is a pleasant bonus provided by the government. The grade of razor I use will only ever be dicated by the cash that you generous people part with. Many thanks.
