Working for a charity may not be handsomely paid but it does have its perks.

Not many people get to go on a trip to the world’s highest free standing mountain as part of their job. However opportunities like this are few and far between so to secure my place I pledged to raise a thousand clams. They said that clams were simply no use in the fight against dementia so I said I would raise £1000 pounds instead. 

Due to the relationship Alzheimer’s Society have with the tour company and the numbers of participants that take part in these treks my place comes at no cost to the charity.

Some of you may be thinking that this is a bit of a holiday. Au contraire, it’s going to be tough. I will spend 7 days trekking most of which will be spent cold, in cramped tents struggling to get enough oxygen to my brain and body causing a constant feeling of extreme nausea and exhaustion. One recent participant described summit day as absolutely horrific. Oh and I have a tendency to get bad claustrophobia meaning the tent is going to become my least favourite place. I’m actually a bit worried about that part.

If you think that’s not good enough to warrant your hard earned donation I have tagged on a second challenge. Actually not so much a challenge as a bit of silliness. I’m going to get dressed up as Santa Clause and take part in a 5 kilometre run through Greenwich Park in December. People who run in the winter are either foolish or really want to raise money for charity. I’ll let you decide but I would really like you to sponsor me whatever you can manage.
