My story

Well the event was a great success.  We had over a thousand runners turn out for a lovely day.  In total the Diageo team has raised nearly £100K so far,  and we're not finnished yet! Equally as important as the money raised was the increased awareness that  the event drove of the critical iussue of water in Africa.  I ran the course in 1hr 45mins which was OK; in my inexperienced enthusiasm (as a runner), I started off too fast and then tapered off towards the end.  Learning for next time! Huge thanks for your donation.  Nick

"There are some 300 million people in Africa without access to safe drinking water.  The impact of that is huge with women and kids walking an average of 2 hours a day to collect water, going to work or to school is compromised, and there are significant adverse health impacts.  So, a few years ago, we in Diageo Africa decided to bring water to 1 million people a year.  Through working with great partners such as Water Aid we've helped bring water to about 5 million people since we started this project.  That's amazing, but it is really just a "drop in the ocean", against what is required.  So we need to do more.  The water of half marathon this year will donate funds raise to a project to be delivered by Water Aid. The project will be rolled out in Maputo and consists of a mixture of constructing new pipe networks and setting up new water-kiosks. It's aiming to provide safe water to 46,000 people. I'm going to try and raise £100k.  A ridiculous number perhaps, but that's how the water of life project started; by daring to dream!!  Thanks in advance.  Nick
