I am running my first ever Marathon in Dubai on 22nd January 2010 in order to raise money for the Calvert Trust in the Lake District.
For over 30 years, the Calvert Trust has been enabling people with disabilities, together with their families and friends, to achieve their potential through outdoor adventure activities in the countryside.
This Charity is important to me because I've seen how it has already positively impacted my little brother Ben first hand!
A lot of you will have met Ben and so you will know him well. Despite always being shy when he first meets people, he is quick to open up and he will always leave a lasting impression on you. For me, Ben is always an inspiration. He is extremely positive, hard working, caring, full of boundless energy and has the ability to make anyone laugh - what more could you ask for in a little brother!
Through his recent involvment with the Calvert Trust, Ben has gained new skills, developed socially and is so much more confident in his own abilities because he was able to push his boundaries through outdoor adventures and the supportive environment created by the Trust!
I know there are loads of causes and charities out there, but I am running for the Calvert Trust because I want to help them to continue to benefit and empower other individuals like Ben. For example, currently, they are building a new swimming pool, which is used by participants as a safe training area to practice their canoeing skills before venturing out onto one of the lakes!
The Calvert Trust's ethos rings so true for me and my family: "it's what you CAN do that counts".
Thanks for your support - this is going to bloody hurt, but my little bro Ben is going to be my inspiration all the way through!
Nick
