Helen & Douglas House helps local families cope with the challenges of looking after a terminally ill baby or child who will die prematurely. We are a home from home for our patients and their families, and provide round-the-clock care in a warm, loving environment.

Story

Dear Friends,

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

When my family kindly suggested that, at my age, I should be taking up sedentary activities, I don't think cycling 50 miles through Oxfordshire was what they had in mind. However, on September 28th, I will attempt just that in support of Helen & Douglas House.

Helen House opened in 1982 as the world's first children's hospice. Douglas House opened in 2004 as the world's first hospice specifically for young adults aged 16-35. Togther, with colleagues from BNP Paribas, I visited Helen & Douglas House earlier this year and was just amazed by the enormous energy and compassion in such a difficult environment.

It is a fantastic cause. As a team, we are looking to raise £50,000 from this, and other, events. It would be great if we go some way to reach that target, or even exceed it, with this cycling event. Personally, I am trying to raise £1000 (originally I set this this at £500).

We are hoping to have over 50 cyclists participating on the day so I will not be alone - well, at least, not at the start. Any contribution you can make to push me towards Oxford would be hugely appreciated.

Many thanks

Nick
