Nick's Three Peaks Challenge - September 2010

I'm sure that many of you receiving this e-mail will be a little surprised at the title as :
1) I am far more comfortable coming down mountains with 2 pieces of fibre glass on my feet than climbing up them.....
2) Apart from moving between drinking establishments; my walking frequency is, to say the least, limited.....
As many of you will be aware, in December 2008, my mum passed away following a 9 month battle with cancer. Since this point, I have become increasingly more aware of just how many people within my own friends & colleagues have been impacted at some point by this terrible illness and decided that rather than feeling sorry for myself, I should get off my increasingly large derriere and do something to help others.
Therefore, myself and a group of friends racked our brains during a night of "socialising" and decided that it would be a great idea to carry out the Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Cancer Research.
The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the 3 highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) in a continuous 24 hour period. This means that in a 24 hour period, we will:
- Walk 25 miles
- Climb 10,000 feet AND
- Drive 450 miles
I know, sounds great doesn't it......just typing these words has sent shivers down my spine !
In all seriousness, those who know me well will be more than aware that this is not my ideal way to spend a day but it is a cause which is very close to my heart and so I would really like to make a difference in reducing the numbers who suffer from this terrible illness.
So please give generously and many thanks for your support
Nick
