I did it!
I started at John o'Groats on 15th August and finished at Land's End on 28th August. I was welcomed in by my family and friends who'd made the huge effort to be there to cheer me in. It was very emotional end to my ride and I was overwhelmed by everyones support. We celebrated with a big BBQ at Sennen Cove with over 60 people and it was the perfect end to my adventure! Thanks to everyone for sponsoring me and making it such a special event.
In July 2009 I lost my brother-in-law, Geoffrey and my 17 year-old niece, Victoria, in a sailing accident on Keilder Water, Northumberland. They were keen sailors and taking part in a race together when a gust of wind tipped their boat over throwing both Geoffrey and Victoria into the water. Victoria became entangled in the boat's rigging and was trapped underwater. Geoffrey died trying to free her. The Air Ambulance arrived quickly and flew Victoria to hospital but she died 2 days later.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service access areas that cannot be reached by road and saves many lives but receives no government or lottery funding, relying on the generosity of the public. It provides, maintains and improves Air Ambulance cover across The North East and Cumbria. If you have ever holidayed in The Lake District or Northumberland you will know how beautiful but remote and desolate these places can be and you'll understand how important this service is, not just to residents but to visitors too.
Thanks again,
Nick
