On the 9th of December 2012 I ran from Marathon to the Acropolis in Athens, a distance of about 40km.

I followed the route that legend has it was run by Pheidippides, the Greek messenger who in 490BC was sent from the battlefield of Marathon to Athens to announce that the Persians had been defeated.

I now understand why he dropped dead - I've seen and done the beast of a hill and have uploaded an image from my Garmin so you can see it.
