I am taking part in the Miss Galaxy England 2017 final, representing Lancashire. As part of holding The title of Miss Lancashire Galaxy it is important to raise awareness for many charities. The UK Galaxy final is raising money for the Christie Charity. The 2016 UK Galaxy final raised over 30,000 pounds for the charity.  The miss contestant that raises the most money for the Christie charity will be awarded with a charity award.

I am planning to do my own sponsored event of a 5KM swim for the Christie charity, this is roughly around 200 lengths of an average pool (will be appropriately calculated closer to the date). I haven't done any competitive swimming since the age of 13, but the Christie charity is good reason to get the cobwebs off my swimming hat.

The Christie charity provides enhanced services above what the NHS  funds. Donations make a huge difference to the care and treatment that the Christie is able to provide all their patients and families. This charity is close to my heart, having lost my good neighbour of 15 years to stage four bone cancer February 2016. I also had my own cancer scare September 2016, when a apple sized tumour in my left ovary was suspected to be cancerous, couple weeks later I got the all clear that the tumour was almost certainly benign. Then 29th December 2016 after my tumour was removed and tested, i got diagnosed with Stage 1 Germ Cell cancer, which i was born with. I am lucky to have found this type of cancer so early on and have been referred to The Christie personally for tests and possible further treatment for Germ Cell cancer. After Getting this life changing news, i have never been more committed to raising money for the Christie and helping others battling cancers.
