I'm currently working for Globalteer.  Globalteer’s Cambodia Kids Project is located in Siem Reap, near the UNESCO designated World Heritage Site of the Angkor temples. The project supports free education programmes for children, homes for orphans and vulnerable children, vocational training, day centres for street kids, community support, sports and arts.
We focus on the young and vulnerable to assist them in finding a way out of the trap of poverty...

Despite the wealth of tourist money that enters Cambodia, very little of this money filters down to the average Cambodian.
Malnutrition is common among Cambodian children – 45% are moderately or severely underweight. 41% of the population has access to safe drinking water - only Afghanistan, Ethiopia and Somalia have less access to clean water. Cambodia has the highest under 5 mortality rate in the East Asia and Pacific region. Some 61,000 Cambodian children died in 2005 before reaching their fifth birthday.


Last year, while teaching English in Phnom Penh, I ran in the Angkor Wat International Half Marathon.  I trained, it hurt, but I raised nothing.

This year, I plan to run it faster, and by doing so raise money for the 3 projects that we work with at Globalteer.  The race is 7 weeks away and now's the time to start asking you all for assistance.  Globalteer is fully dependent on the donations from volunteers that we place at our projects, and also on funds raised by friends of Globalteer through fundraising events such as this.
