Wessex Heartbeat supports the work of the Wessex Cardiac Centre to provide the best care for patients with heart conditions. We provide the latest specialist equipment and major facilities for patients, relatives and staff to ensure the highest quality of care for > 20,000 patients treated annually.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Virgin London Marathon 2010 sponsership page!

Established in 1992, Wessex Heartbeat is one of the region's major charities and exists to support the work of the Wessex Cardiac Centre (WCC), one of the UK's leading heart treatment centres. Since 1992, the generosity of supporters at all levels has enabled Wessex Heartbeat to raise over £13m which we have used to help ensure that the best possible care is provided to more than 20,000 patients treated at the centre each year.

A key part of Wessex Heartbeat's work has been the creation of Heartbeat House. The last thing a patient needs to worry about when they're receiving treatment is the welfare of their loved ones and this house, located within a few minutes walk of Southampton General hospital, provides free-of-charge accommodation for relatives of cardiac patients. It can quite literally be a haven during difficult and stressful times, but it costs £1,000 per week to run and maintain it and every penny is met through voluntary donations

Two children close to me have made use of the fantastic support of Wessex Heartbeat, so if you are able to sponser me for as much as you feel able to, then this will go towards the continuing work of a valuable and much needed support to children and families going through extremely difficult experiences.
