I am delighted to report that I have now completed my second charity trek in Peru, trekking at high altitude in the Andes along an alternative Inca Trail route, with Machu Picchu as my final goal. As last time, it was really hard work (the Peruvians have a strange understanding of 'gentle up') but really rewarding, despite the cold at night and the exertions by day. I am delighted to be able to confirm that I walked and carried my own back pack the whole way. It was great to know that every step was helping to support LOROS (the Leicestershire and Rutland Hospice), a fantastic and worthwhile cause that needs to raise over £4million each year in order to provide round the clock care free of charge to its terminally ill patients and their families. It also runs a Palliative Day Therapy Unit and a lymphoedema clinic. In addition it has recently built an extension with 11 single rooms for patients.
