We support, research and campaign to help people affected by coeliac disease.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My challenge is to run the Exmoor marathon on 13th April, followed by the London marathon on 21st April.

I have been working hard to organise charity fundraising events such as a gluten free food fair and live band with a curry night in December 2012 as well as a rock and roll night in February 2013.

I work as a dietitian and my passion is to improve lives for people with coeliac disease and renal disease.

Coeliac UK rely entirely on donations to help raise awareness, knowledge. improve diagnosis rates and provide support for people with coeliac disease. Money is needed to continue the fantastic work they do, including funding research into coeliac disease, producing an annual Food and Drink directory listing hundreds of suitable gluten free products, providing expert advice on the Coeliac UK helpline, providing training and advice for caterers to try to improve the provision of gluten free meals, contacting Primary Care Trusts to discuss the importance of gluten free foods on prescription and providing educational resources and literature for health professionals and people with coeliac disease.

I aim to raise £1500.00 for Coeliac UK and any money raised after this will be donated to Northamptonshire Kidney Patients Association.

I work at Corby Renal Unit in Northamptonshire where we have patients attending aged between 18 and 99 years, spending 3 days of the week attached to a haemodialysis machine. The effects of renal failure, medication and a very restrictive renal diet can have profound effects both physically and psychologically.

Although Northamptonshire Kidney Patients Association is run largely by people with kidney disease themselves, they work tirelessly to try to improve the lives for people within the East Midlands Network. Their support is extremely valued amongst patients and staff. Money raised helps people with renal failure to help with the costs of equiptment and resources to make life easier e.g. food hampers for those on a low income at Christmas, ovens or freezers for those with little cooking equiptment available, help with transport costs for hospital appointments or help to purchase equiptment such as wheelchairs or mobility scooters.

The help they provide make a huge difference to people with kidney failure. Many are on a low income as they often struggle to find or maintain regular full time work.

These Charities really need your help to continue the excellent service they provide.
