Story
THANK YOU FOR COMING HERE ...
Our friend Matthew Harvey sadly took his own life earlier this year after suffering from mental illness for a period of time.
Mathew was a good friend, talented musician, a passionate sportsman and a great father who will be sadly missed.
Did you know, more than 55,000 suicides occur in Europe each year, including more than 6,000 in the UK and Ireland?
Suicide is the leading cause of death among young people aged 20-34 years in the UK and it is considerably higher in men, with around three times as many men dying as a result of suicide compared to women
It is the leading cause of death for men under 50 in the UK.
Mental health is now something very close to our hearts and therefore we're challenging ourselves this Saturday 9th September.
Many of you that know us will know we are not runners, in fact we've never run before in our lives, but in memory of Harvey we have chosen to run 10k at a special event this Saturday 9th September and have set ourselves a personal goal to raise £500 in 5 days!
Our mission in memory of Harvey has brought us together, we've trained together, well we have ran 3 times in last 7 days and chatted whilst running about Darryl's childhood memories with Harvey and our fun gym days with him.
YES I know your probably thinking "this is going to be a CHALLENGE".
Especially having only started our training 7 days ago and I've ran 3 times and Darryl only once, its going to be a challenge. We've enjoyed it and Harvey I know would certainly be shocked at seeing Darryl in a pair of running shorts and trainers. I on the other hand quite like it as he has a fab pair of legs.
We are so determined to raise awareness for mental health, raise funding for The Samaritans and achieve our first ever 10k run in memory of a great guy.
Yes we know it's a BIG goal and YES only 5 days left but we are giving it our BEST and know Harvey would be PROUD especially of Darryl as our gym days with him overlooking our efforts will never be forgotten...
A big thank you in advance to anyone that can help donate to our cause and help us on our mission this week, as the TESCO saying goes "Every little helps" and it will mean the world!
Wish us luck..
Nicola & Darryl x
