NYC: Here I come!
“Adventure is just bad planning...”
Roald Amundsen
In November 2011 I will put myself against the New York Marathon– one of the World Marathon Majors – taking in all 5 boroughs over a gruelling 26.2 mile course for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity which improves the lives of people affected by cancer. They provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care.
Quite possibly I am naive to the challenge.
The last time I ran competitively, it was over just half the distance – I had hoped that I would finish standing proud; my chest puffed out as I look boldly into the distance (my superhero cape flailing in the wind)... As it happened, my lungs were on fire, my face flushed – I was only able to stand because falling would require too much energy!
It begs the question ‘why’?
To prove to myself that I can do it - To test my mind and my soul against the limitations of my body.
Also, many of the people that benefit from the help of Macmillan Cancer Support cannot get up and go for a run - I am very lucky to be able to do. And so it is for those people and their families that I take on the challenge (and hope to raise a little money, to help the charity to continue their excellent work).
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Many thanks,
Nico
