I'm doing this crazy challenge to collect money for the the Juvenille Diabetes Research Fund.
I chose this charity because my 4yr old nephew Max and work colleague Olivias daughter Sophie, were diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes a life threatening, condition which has altered their daily life. We assumed that Diabetes was a condition which could be controlled through diet but we were wrong, that is type 2 Diabetes and is completely different from type 1. Max's pancreas no longer works and therefore he has multiple daily injections to help his body process the foods he eats and control his blood sugars. Max tests his blood around 10 times a day - more if he is poorly. He can go from fit and healthy to very low and dangerously hypo in minutes or the other way which is even more frightening as it has long term health complications.
On the positive side, advancements in technology, e.g. a specialist pump, are making a real difference. More developments are being piloted, and with your help may become reality...
Type 1 diabetes affects about 350,000 people in the UK, 25,000 of them are children.
JDRF raises money to drive world-class research to prevent, treat and cure type 1 diabetes and its serious and debilitating complications.
Thanks...
