Marathon des Sables · 2 April 2011

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

UPDATE

Well the desert did beat me! Having completed 192Km including the 80Km nonstop stage, I developed infected blisters on both feet. The medics advised that I withdraw from the race as they were concerned about septicaemia setting in. As my feet and legs had swollen so much I could not put my shoes on, I could only agree. The necessary treatment included "clinical debriding" which got rid of the infection but also removed most of the skin off the soles of my feet! So I am currently hobbling around while my feet heal.

Entering the MDS was a great experience, and I am pleased to have been able raise so much money for the Alzheimer's Society in memory of my friend, Derek. Thank you for supporting me
