5k Team Challenge Liverpool 098 · 20 September 2009

Nugent Care works across North West England to address issues of social inclusion, welfare and justice for children, older / vulnerable adults and communities. Its care homes, schools, volunteers and community projects provide support and care for hundreds of children and adults with a range of needs all year round.

Story

Last years 5k Liverpool Team Challenge was a resounding success and this year they are determined to make it better.

This year we have 10 teams running. My team includes Jane Hughes, Jo Mellan and Natalie Jones who have collectively decided to call us 'Nigel's Angels'. Enthusiastic about this tremendous joint effort and very keen to be involved the team have a range of experience of competitions - Jane Hughes has a few marathons already to her credit but we are focusing this time on all finishing to support a very worthy cause.

We have agreed to support Nugent Care. The scope and breadth of their work is immense, inspiring and constantly evolving as the team work to meet the needs of vulnerable and marginalised individuals across the region.

In an average week, Nugent Care homes and special schools provide support for hundreds of children, young people and adults. They also have over 500 volunteers across communities in Merseyside and beyond, clocking up over 43,000 hours of voluntary activity each year. Community Teams continue to provide a vital support service to hundreds of individuals across the North West who have learning disabilities, who are Deaf or hard hearing, or who are older people in need of support or befriending. Other specialist services offered by the Community Teams include a welfare and material aid project, support for homeless people and a drug and alcohol intervention programme.
