Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As if cycling to Barcelona from London (over 1000 miles) last year wasn't enough, I am once again taking to the saddle for a 7 day tour of the French Alps on the 11th June 2010. This time I'm raising money for the Winchester Project - a fantastic voluntary organisation (based at Swiss Cottage in London) - that provides important services for local children and their families.

The Winch works with children and young people from across and beyond the borough of Camden through Play, Sport and Youth programmes as well as community and enterprise initiatives. It provides activities, relationships and stability for 4 to 25 year-olds from diverse backgrounds, working to challenge exclusion and offer meaningful opportunities which can be grasped and taken advantage of. In the coming year, with less statutory funding likely to be available and the financial climate having an effect on people's giving, this cycle ride is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference by supporting this crucial work. (For more information, check out www.thewinch.org.)

I will be doing approximately 70 miles per day and mostly uphill. I must be crazy although if London to Barcelona is anything to go by it will be a great crack (if back breaking physical endurance is your thing, that is). If you want an idea of what a long distance cycle ride is like take a look at my blog for the London to Barcelona trip at www.letourdesaddlesore.blogspot.com.

Some of the route in the French will follow the official Tour de France route so I will need to be in good shape. I'm doing about 200 miles per week at present but this is increasing as I get closer to the trip. Next Satirday I am cycling to and from Brighton in one run - about 110 miles - and the day after I'm doing a 100 mile route over the South Downs. Bradley Wiggins watch out (he's a top class cyclist if you didn't know).

Every penny I raise goes to to the Winchester Project so please give generously. When I return (bow legged and saddle sore) I will show you the pictures as proof I did it. Not that you doubt me.

Adieu and thank you.
