In December 2005 our Daughter Lia-Rose Karen Tarn died at 5 days old from Group B Streptococcal Meningitis, a preventable infection (carried by 1/3 of all men and women) that if detected in newborn infants can be easily treated with antibiotics. If untreated, Babies up to 3 months of age are susceptible. Annually 700 babies become infected and around 75 babies will die. With increased awareness these tragedies can be avoided.
On the 15 August I will set off from Haweswater in Cumbria to climb over 30,000 feet (the equivalent height of Mt. Everest from sea level), walk over 100 miles and cover the top 30 highest peaks in Cumbria. I intend to complete the trek in Pooley Bridge in the Ullswater valley 5 days later. I don’t believe this has ever been attempted or achieved before.
This will all be in aid of Group B Meningitis Strep research & support, which killed our Daughter 5 years ago. Just £25 will save a babies life. We now have event title sponsorship from Outdoor retailers Blacks & Millets - will you support/sponsor me too?
