I am raising money for the Edinburgh University Undergraduate iGEM Team! This summer, myself and the team are designing 'DNA Typewriter': we are using the principles of synthetic biology and engineering to store text in DNA.
In 2040, you will not be able to read this sentence. This isn’t because of some sci-fi apocalyptic event, or because you’ll forget how to read; rather, it will be because we are running out of one of the most essential resources in modern day life: data storage space. The amount of energy and resources it takes to upkeep current data storage techniques is unsustainable. Data storage demand will very soon exceed supply.
This is where we come in! Our team is creating a modular system for storing text into DNA sequences. Our innovative method is sustainable, long-lasting and accessible. DNA is the future of data storage; it will revolutionise the way that information is preserved and transferred in the not too far future. All we need now is your help to make it happen.
I am raising money along with the rest of the team in order to cover our lab costs and travel expenses required to present our project at the end of the summer. In September, to celebrate your support and donations, the whole team (and some of our supervisors) will be abseiling off the David Hume Tower.
Thank you very much!
