Thanks so much to everyone who has helped me to reach my target. I know that your resources are pulled in many directions and I'm really grateful to you. It would be great to give as much as possible so please carry on donating if you can. There are so many people who will benefit from your money along with their animals. Thanks again.
Next February I will be going to India to ride one of the local horses through the Rajasthani desert. The ride lasts six days and will be intensive so don't expect me to be walking in quite the same way on the school run, particularly as my horse's shoe keeps falling off meaning I have had little chance to train.
I will pay the costs of travel myself so that your donations go directly to those who really need them.
The money raised will go to The Brooke Hospital. The charity provides much needed care for working horses and donkeys in some of the most disadvantaged parts of the world.
Apart from the obvious benefits to the animals themselves, there is a direct human aspect to the work of The Brooke. Without healthy animals many families are simply unable to sustain an income to feed and clothe themselves.
The cost of veterinary care is far outside the reach of the poor, and this is where The Brooke steps in. They also provide nutritional advice, preventative medecine (eg tetanus injections) and training.
If you cannot donate financially then I will gratefully accept a pot of Sudocrem or a nice gel-filled saddle pad! However, absolutely nobody should offer to help John look after my lovely children while I am away!!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and they won't send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
