Great Wall of China Cycle Challenge for The Prince's Trust · 28 October 2006 ·

The King’s Trust supports 11 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed or struggling at school to get their lives on track. Many of the young people we support are in or leaving care, have been in trouble with the law, or they are facing challenges such as homelessness or mental health issues.

Story

Dear friends and lovely people!

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I have just volunteered to cycle the Great Wall of China! This will be 400km of mountain climbing on a mountain bike. Seeing the pic on the left, you might wonder where the challenge is? Well let me explain ...

Yes, I do cycle, I cycle a lot. But I ride track bikes (those indoor ones with no brakes, and definitely no mountains!) where the longest distance I have to ride is 750 metres (and as you can also see from the pic, I'm ususally taking it easy on the back!)

Unbelieveably, I have never ridden a mountain bike before in all my 37 years until 6 weeks ago, when I signed up for the challenge. So cycling an average of 80km a day through the mountains of China is going to involve, for me at least, an awful lot of suffering!

But this challenge for me is small compared to those faced every single day by the young people the Prince's Trust aims to help. The Prince's Trust helps young people to overcome their problems and get their lives working - we give them a second chance where there might not otherwise be one. My fundraising target is £10,000; imagine how many young people we can help if we can raise that amount!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Prince's Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now - it's for a fantastic cause, and together we can help young people get their lives back on track.

Many, many thanks for your support.
