In May 2011 I am doing something for the amazing organisation I work for. Adoption UK is a national charity run by and for adopters, providing self-help information, advice, support and training on all aspects of adoption and adoptive parenting. We work with parents and practitioners to make adoptions succeed, promoting loving and supportive family relationships within adoptive families. The face of adoption has changed over the last 40 years and so too has Adoption UK. One constant however has been the valuable support we provide to adoptive families, particularly those adopting children from the care system who might have suffered abuse or neglect.
To mark our 40th anniversary, we are organising a year-long programme of events and activites; not just to celebrate the past, but to highlight our work and fundraise for what we do now and in the future. This year, we want to raise awareness, raise funds and influence policy.
So, on 28 May, as part of ‘Make May Matter’, I am climbing Mount Snowdon in Wales to raise money for Adoption UK’s 40 year. I have faith that my lack of fitness will be overcome by my general enthusiasm to raise some much-needed funds!
