Hello, my name is Esme Norbury and on the 12th of March my brother Hugo and I did a 15 mile bicycle ride in support of the charity ECHO. This charity supports patients and their families after heart operartions at The Evelina Children's Hospital, part of St Thomas's Hospital. It provides friendship and support which is vital for a healthy recovery. We feel that making a donation big or small would be very much appreciated, and we hope that our donation would help those who are in that position. This is Hugo's personal story: "I was born in 1995, and was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot. I had open heart surgery at 4 months old, but the doctors could not put in a valve which I was missing until I had finished growing. So for my life until now I have had restricted health and fitness, affecting my ability to play sports.  But, in August, I had a follow up heart operation in which a valve was fitted. After the operation, I was in hospital for quite a long time, but I was really well looked after by the team of nurses and doctors and the Evelina Children’s Hospital. They were all very caring and helped me through a difficult time. The effects of the operation took a few weeks to become apparent, but I was already feeling livelier and with more energy, unlike before the operation when I felt drowsy and constantly tired. After a few months I could play sport again and that was when I noticed a massive difference. I could run faster and longer and did not get exhausted after exercise. I swam a lot and this helped me for the first time in my life to be able to keep up with my friends. I am doing this bike ride to show that I am back to full health and to raise funds for other children who are still recovering". So please give to ECHO, so that more children like Hugo can be helped.
