Story
I am currently a Paediatric Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department at the University Hospital Southampton.
The trust wants to build a much needed national children’s hospital. The new department will become a major trauma centre delivering life-saving and acute specialist care for critically ill children from across nine different regions, stretching from
Devon to West Sussex, Oxfordshire to The Channel Islands.
The Southampton Hospital's Charity and The Murray Parish Trust have pledged to raise
£2,000,000
, which will be matched by the government ensuring the development of this state of the art, children’s emergency and trauma department
We have set ourselves a mammoth challenge, a team of 12 from the Emergency Department will be rowing a gig for the first time ever from
Jersey to Southampton between June 8 - 10 2018
.
This is a whopping
200km
!!! This challenge will mirror the patient’s journey from Jersey to Southampton for trauma cases brought from the Channel Islands over to our major trauma centre here in Southampton.
It will take approximately 20 hours and will be no easy feat: months of training and preparation will be paramount to ensure the challenge is achieved and in a safe way.
I ask you all kindly to consider sponsoring our team to complete this challenge, raising money for a much needed new Children's hospital which delivers specialty care to a large geographical area.
Thanks a million!
