Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

To try and gain a large donation for our charity (The Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Trust) I, Gary O'Connor, and my two brothers, Ian and Huw, will be embarking upon a bike ride which is approximately 150 miles long, on the 19 May 2010, that will take us from Whitehaven (Cumbria) through snow capped Pennine peaks (at the time of writing) to  heights of 2000 ft and then eventually to Sunderland in the space of 3 days. This journey is not simply an expedition to lose beer bellies and get fit (that would be a bonus!) but it is a method of raising as much money as possible for the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Trust.

Muscular Dystrophy is a life-threatening genetic disorder that happens to be very dear to my heart, due to the fact that my son, Michael, (who you can see in the picture above) was diagnosed with Becker’s Duchenne Intermediate Muscular Dystrophy in 2006. Michael is a boy who is extremely active and loves sport, he enjoys anything from football to badminton; however due to his condition he finds it very difficult to get involved in these activities – this is a problem he shares with many children who also have Muscular dystrophy.

At the moment there is no cure for the disease and this must be changed, to help both children who currently have the condition and children who will be diagnosed in the future. Therefore we have decided to do this bike ride to aid the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Trust with their research into a cure, with the hope that one day they will find the means to wipe out this disease.

So please dig deep and donate now.
