My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

OYT North has entered their 70 foot ketch James Cook into the ASTO Small Ships Race 2012 from London to Portland which takes place in June 2012.

The big challenge is that the crew of 12 will comprise of both visually impaired  and sighted young people who will all work together in 3 separate watches  to sail the yacht for 24hrs per day. The crew will also take part in shore based organised activities and there will be a prize giving at the end. The sighted support will enable the visually impaired crew members to take part fully in the race and the various shorebased activities. There is a delivery voyage from North Shields which will allow the crew to bond as a team and then the actual race will start from London.

This is a fantastic opportunity for sighted and visually impaired young people to work together towards a shared goal, both facing many different challenges along the way.
