On Saturday night, starting at 8.00pm, we're setting off for France in a flotilla of Tera, Feva & Firefly dinghies. The plan is to sail from Dover to Calais and back by 8.00am on Sunday in order to raise funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). So as not to call out the lifeboat ourselves - we'll do the whole thing on Rutland Water by counting laps of a measured course and taking the cumulative total.
To make it more fun we've invited the club juniors and Stamford School sailors to join in and we'll have a BBQ to keep everyone going. Each lap every boat must come alongside the pontoon and one member of crew will swap - so everybody will make new friends and sail each type of boat.
Sunset is 21:30. There's a full moon on Saturday, which will rise at 21:45 and evening twilight ends at 22:00. We're hoping for gin clear skies and a light summer breeze to keep us skimming along in the moonlight. A quick glass of 'rouge' in France (for the adult spectators) and we'll bring back some pain-au-chocolat for breakfast on Sunday.
The objective is to raise money for the lifeboats.
