'OctoBeardfest' Prostate Cancer Appeal - It's growing on me!
During the month of October, 916 men will die of prostate cancer in the UK alone. So we thought a good way of raising vital funds and awareness of this disease, would be to ask men to stop shaving and grow a beard in October.
When I sat down in my shed in the garden (OctoBeardfest HQ) on August 23 and thought "Right - let's see if we can get this idea off the ground" - I never in my wildest dream thought that 2 months later we would be in 200 pubs in Surrey, have 74 fund-raising pages up on Just Giving and Virgin Money and be knocking on the door of £36,000 raised so far that I know about, and probably quite a lot more that I don't. Incredible!
Funds are urgently needed to help build a new Urology Centre at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford - a vital hub which will serve over 1 million patients. In addition, the world-class cancer research team based at the University of Surrey and led by Professor Pandha, desperately need funds to further their pioneering work in vaccine, genes and viral therapy.
The Prostate Project is a volunteer led charity with very low administration costs. We have no paid staff or expensive offices. 96 pence of every pound you donate will go where it is needed
