At the Archer Project, we support adults experiencing homelessness in Sheffield and the wider region. Our Project facilitates a range of services and activities to help individuals progress away from homelessness, to live more meaningful and fulfilling lives.

Story

To celebrate our marriage we have chosen 3 charities, one local, one national and one international; each has its own Just Giving page.  The Cathedral Archer Project is the local charity.

We are longstanding supporters of the Cathedral Archer Project based at the Sheffield Cathedral and have been involved in fundraising as well as in lifting the profile of the Project.

It is difficult to imagine involuntary homelessness.  It isn't just that the global meltdown has made matters much worse, and that so many people are having their homes repossessed or have suddenly lost their job and with it status, confidence and the like.  It is also that the more difficult and unstable the world, the greater the insecurity and the more likely it is that relationships break down.  That the normal family support is not available and that people find themselves gradually spiralling downwards until they are literally on the street.
The Cathedral Archer Project has to raise £360,000 per year in order to deliver support, advice and direct help to around 12,000 people, who vary from those who are on the road, to those who, with a bit of a helping hand, can quickly become independent and self-reliant again.
The Cathedral Archer Project provides a range of services, an all year round version of most peoples idea of "Crisis at Christmas".  A decent meal, a change of clothes, the ability to have a shower but also to get medical and dental check ups and treatment.
But more than this the Cathedral Archer Project also offers support and advice in a way that helps people individually.  For example, with referral for drug and alcohol abuse, mental health problems, counselling and of course advice where retraining opportunities might exist.
They do all this with a large number of volunteers, people who give up their own time freely but need the resources to be able to deliver.

Thank you for your interest and generosity.
