HELP US SUPPORT CHILDREN WITH EPILEPSY

Following on from last years effort Richard Johns, Royston Smith, Chris Beasley and John Richards (replaced by the superfit Andrew Evans at the last minute due to an injury) are again taking part in the Brecon to Cardiff Charity Bike Ride on the 10th June 2012 (yes that's all 55 miles AGAIN!). Please support us in this challenge in continuing to raise funds towards the purchase of a video telemetry suite for the Child Neurology Unit at the Children's Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

The Child Neurology Fund supports children with severe epilepsy and their families and is currently raising money to fund a new video telemetry suite to aid diagnosis.

There are many strains of epilepsy and identifying the one which a child is affected by is a difficult process, often done by trial and error. Consequently it may be years before a child has their condition correctly medicated, during which time their physical and mental growth may have already been permanently damaged IMPROVING DIAGNOSIS, TREATMENT AND QUALITY OF LIFE

Video telemetry enables neurologists to monitor epileptic children for a prolonged period, giving an insight in to the frequency of seizures, their severity and the parts of the brain affected.

They are then able to give an accurate diagnosis and prescribe the right medication so the condition can immediately be controlled and the child’s quality of life improved.

There is currently only one video telemetry suite in the country, and waiting times to access this facility run in to many months, so this new facility will make an enormous difference to hundreds of children and their families.
