Haig Housing is the UK’s leading housing charity providing homes for veterans and their families. We support over 4,000 residents, aiming to help veterans in housing need; including those severely injured, whether transitioning into civilian life or in need of a helping hand in later years.

Story

We are a group of eight " Old Pals " and "Real Novice Cyclist" who are aiming to raise £20,000 in memory of the 20,000 British casualties on the first day of the Battle of the Somme in 1916. The money we raise will provide specially adapted homes for today's severely wounded and traumatically disabled Service and ex-service heroes. We are cycling the route of the World War One Battlefields, Memorials & showing our Respect to the Fallen. Starting at Ypres on 27th June 2016 and finishing 5 days later on 1st July at the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing.

This is a particulalry tough physical and mental challenge for one member of the team. Alan Spencer will be hand-cycling the whole way as his serious disability affects the use of his legs and one arm. He says he'll be OK as long as there are only left hand turns on the route! Our Old Pals who are supporting & cycling with Alan are Dave Heath RAOC, Alistair Snowden REME, Biju Shrestha PGRE, Michael,Mark & Craig Auckland 1st & 2nd R. Anglian, Dave Stonnell RA & Pete Watson RAOC.

We are aiming to have all costs covered through generous donations before we start, so our target of £20,000 will be spent on providing homes, adapted to suit the indiviual Service person.

Please help us reach our target.
