Story

Hello! Thank you for visiting my Justgiving page.

My challenge:

John O'Groats - Lands End

Next year in June myself and 5 other middle aged men will get on their bikes at John O'Groats in the very north of Scotland, and cycle south for 9 days, averaging 100 miles a day (160km) before finishing their 874 miles/1,405.5km marathon cycle ride at Lands End, the furthest point south west in mainland Britain. The challenge is the ambition of many cyclists - to go from one end of Britain to the other. We will be facing mountains in Scotland, the wind, the “wonderful” British weather and hills everywhere and hardly any flat roads.

… and in addition, I would like to take part in the London Marathon 2013 :-) !

Last year Tony Frobisher (who’s also a team member and the organizer of this cycle ride) and I battled through the elements to complete a marathon cycle ride (470 miles from Worcester to Dublin and back) to raise more than £4,000 for cerebral palsy charity Scope, facing driving rain along the way. We tackled the 470 mile route in six days after leaving the city on June 11 before taking on the mountains of Snowdonia. After catching a ferry from Pembroke Dock to Wexford, we made our way through the Wicklow mountains up to the Irish capital, before returning home on Thursday, June 16. We battled through the rain and at times we were absolutely drenched, but it was all worth it.

Tony, who has a child with severe cerebral palsy (a link can be found to his page for more details from the Six Men In Lycra team page), our friendship and common passion for cycling has inspired me to do this.

This time we’re raising money for Make A Wish, a fantastic charity that grants wishes to young people (aged between 3 & 17) who are fighting life threatening conditions. From meeting their favourite pop stars or football players, to swimming with dolphins, visiting Disneyland or Santa in Lapland, to having the opportunity to experience driving in a racing car and many other things. Make-A-Wish helps make dreams come true. The money raised will put smiles back on the faces of children who live with pain, discomfort, disability and illness every day of their lives.

Please help make their wishes come true. Please help me by donating.

Many thanks,

Oliver
