I am Oliver Moss from France Lynch, Stroud. I am currently in my final year studying Economics at Reading University. I am an ex-student of Cirencester College and ex-pupil of Cirencester Deer Park School and before that Chalford Hill Primary School.
A little bit more about me, I was an overweight, largely inactive child and teenager, but since I went away for a bit I discovered an interest in sport and pushing myself to do new things. I enjoyed Rowing for a bit, but since have been more interested in Over-Tight Lycra, Over-Priced Sunglasses and an Over-Inflated sense of Athletic Importance. It is in this theme then, that my next challenge will be a Tri. I am doing an Ironman.
Ironman is a full distance Triathlon that will be my greatest ever challenge for sure. It is 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of cycling then a 26.2 mile (marathon) run. The event is on September 18th in Henley, where myself and 1100 or so others will set off into a river at 6am, get out of it at about half seven, get on a bike for seven hours then imagine the bike broke 26.2 miles from home. Most who do Ironman have a cause in mind, and I am proud to be taking part with any fellow Triathletes with a cause just like my own.
In my Ironman, I am raising money for Rotary International, with my preferred charity Cancer Research UK in honour of my dearly missed Grandfather, who I lost last year. My fund-raising target is £2,500, and people can easily donate online safely here or fill out a sponsorship form at Yew Tree Cottage, Coppice Hill or Moss Motors.
I much look forward to my big day in September.
