My story
Willoughby was our third son. We knew things were not quite right when he didn't start to babble. At first we put it down to just being slightly lazy with two older brothers. When he was 2 years we had endless hearing tests and finally he had grommets fitted. After the operation he didn't react to any sound. He was then fast tracked to having hearing aids fitted and when that didn't work we had him scanned. It was a life changing moment for all of us to realize our beautiful boy had been living in a silent world. Following that were endless tests to see if there were other syndromes that may follow. Luckily there weren't. He was immediately accepted to have billateral cochlear implants which would bring him into the hearing world. The operation was a great success and now we are on the road to teaching Willoughby to communicate through speach. "The Elizabeth Foundation" have been and still are such a backbone to both us as a family in all the support they give us emotionally and educatively and of course to Willoughby. Willoughby will not be speaking for a time yet but just even him hearing us call his name is enough to feel that no matter how tough this process is all of it is worth it. I would like to thank you all for taking the time to read this and for your support in advance.
I am planning on swimming 3,600mtrs (200 lengths) to raise money for the Elizabeth Foundation on Saturday 3rd March 2012.

The Elizabeth Foundation pre-school for deaf children and their families follows the "Multi Sensory Oral Approach", encouraging the development of speech, language and listening skills by using all of the child's senses in a natural, fun, child-centred environment.
