HAPsI aims to fund projects in south India which exist primarily to care for destitute children. It supports a children's home which feeds, clothes and guarantees good education to about 40 children, mainly orphans and some disabled. There is the intention that HAPsI will also support self sustaining development projects among very poor rural communities in the same area.

Story

Welcome to my fund raising extravaganza, thanks for stopping by. I am running the Bristol half marathon on September 11th 2011, having only signed up on August 14th, exactly 4 weeks prior to the main event!

The date for the marathon, brings back lots of memories for me and millions more. It is 10 years since the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre. I was in Manhattan that day and it is something that will certainly stick with me for the rest of my life. I felt the need to do something worthwhile and this seems like a good opportunity as any.

I am raising money for HAPsI-whose aim is to foster rural development in tribal village communities in Tamil Nadu in order to work towards self sufficiency and sustainability in those communiities. Being born in rural Tamil Nadu myself I have witnessed first hand how charities and social enterprises can benefit rural India and is therefore close to my heart. Please see www.hapsi.co.uk for more information.

Actions speak louder than words and sometimes in life you just have to do it! I've always been open to challenges and the need to push boundaries.

Although I play football at least once a week my fitness levels aren't in prime condition. I do have a six pack, but they are in the fridge chilling. Which brings me onto my next point I am not drinking any lager or cider for a month and cut out drinking altogether (apart from one small lapse, but no beer or cider was drank).

The half marathon is 13.1 MILES, which is quite some distance obviously! I have never done any endurance challenge like this before!

It's been a while since my last, let's say 'activity', which was jumping out of a plane at 15,000 feet in Queenstown, New Zealand. It's in my personality to be adventurous and I relish a challenge.

Enough of my rambling now, if you can afford to make a small donation it would mean a lot to me and generate much needed money for my chosen charity.

Thanks again

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
