--- UPDATE  ---

We did it!! Approximately 203 miles over 2 days. And on day two we were joined by Mike Perkins who cycled 200Km in one day!

Everything went well and we far exceeded our initial fundraising target. However, £2,000 was what we thought we could realistically achieve. The Foundation is seeking to raise £50,000 this year to continue funding research, so all the sponsorship we raise through this cycle helps take the Foundation closer to this target. Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us. We are grateful for your generosity and we know that the money will be helping to make a positive difference.

Look out for more news soon on the  Cystinosis Foundation Website.

--- UPDATE ---

2 Men - 2 Days - 200 Miles - August 28th/29th

Matt Blackham & David Hancock aim to cycle one mile for each person in the UK with Cystinosis

The Challenge

There are approximately 200 people with Cystinosis in the UK and we are aiming to cycle a mile for each person. Our route starts in Edinburgh, takes us over the Forth Road Bridge, hugs the coast around Fife, then over the Tay Bridge to Dundee. Day one finally finishes 100 miles later in Carnoustie. On day two we will continue up the coast to Stonehaven, around the west side of Aberdeen, through Ellon, then on to our final destination of Mintlaw (near Peterhead), 200 miles from the start and the home of Lena Forsyth - Matt's niece who has Cystinosis.

Every Penny We Raise Goes Towards Research

Being so rare, there is minimal research into Cystinosis. The Cystinosis Foundation UK is supporting a number of projects at universities in the UK, as well as several other studies. Every penny we raise will go towards this research. All costs for this cycle and its preparation are coming from our own pockets.

What Is Cystinosis?

Cystinosis occurs when the mechanism, which removes excess cystine, breaks down. It then accumulates within body cells preventing these cells from functioning correctly. This initially leads to kidney problems and progresses to other parts of the body, including the thyroid gland, eyes, liver and impaired growth. In the past, it was rare for Cystinotics to survive into adulthood. Currently, there is no cure for Cystinosis and most Cystinotics have a strict 6 hourly regime of foul tasting medication.

The Cystinosis Foundation UK is helping to support research that will help to find a cure and improve the medicines available to treat Cystinosis.

Please Sponsor Us

All the money we raise will go directly to research projects that we know are making a difference. So we really do appreciate every donation! Special thanks go to:

* Scott Logic for their £200 donation. www.scottlogic.com

* David & Jenny Blackham for their £200 donation.
