We are a synagogue and community centre to our members and the wider community

Story

Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg and his dog Mitzpah are going on a 100-mile sponsored walk in March 2008 to raise awareness of the Shul and our work in the wider community.

Stops will include hospitals and hospices with which we have close links; places of worship of different faiths; environmental projects such as the woodland we are planting at Theydon Bois; the Houses of Parliament to discuss our hopes for peace in Israel, as well as the rights of asylum seekers; the sculpture at Liverpool Street Station to commemorate the Holocaust, the Kindertransport, and the work of World Jewish Relief; and UJIA to discuss the projects we are supporting in Israel and work for reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians.

Rabbi Wittenberg has said "It matters to me that there's physical effort and challenge involved in the walk. Of course, if people feel that it's inappropriate to sponsor the rabbi, they can always choose to sponsor the dog instead, although I should say that at his speed and with his agility he's likely to do at least 300 miles to my mere century."

The funds raised will support NNLS as well as a number of the organisations and projects that will be visited on the walk.

With thanks to The Pears Foundation, CKFT Solicitors, H W Fisher & Co, Medivet, The Bank of Scotland, The Village Vet and Hartsbourne Golf Club for their kind support of this event.
