We offer support, advice and information to UK families affected by retinoblastoma

Story

THANK YOU for visiting our fundraising page.  We wanted a tough challenge and the Devizes to Westminster kayak race is described as "the common man's Everest".  125 miles, non-stop paddling for 30 hours. We are raising money for The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust which is a charity very close to our hearts.

Almost every week, a child under the age of 5 is diagnosed with EYE CANCER (retinoblastoma). The good news is, it can be treated and over 95% will survive but because it's not picked up soon enough, most children will need to have an eye removed.  Some will lose both and many will suffer visual impairment after treatment.

Retinoblastoma accounts for nearly 3% of all childhood cancers in the UK and in about 45% of cases, this cancer is inheritable.  With the inheritable form there is a greater risk of developing other cancers in later life.  The symptoms of RB can often be detected in flash photography.  If the pupil flashes white or yellow, a black eye or absence of red eye in a photograph or even a squint can be signs of eye cancer.

THANK YOU for reading about our chosen charity,  PLEASE sponsor us.  We can assure you that your money will really make a difference.  THANK YOU.
