I am joining 25 of my work colleagues for a sleep-in at work to raise funds for Focus Ireland. Shine A Light Night is a truly touching event where the Business Community come together for one night to raise vital funds and to stand in solidarity with people experiencing homelessness in Ireland today.

There are 6525 people 'officially homeless' in Ireland. The number of families becoming homeless has increased by over 40% since last year and one 1 in 3 of those in emergency accommodation is now a child. However this figure does not include people who are sleeping rough, and it does not cover the hidden homeless - who are living in squats or sofa surfing with friends or those living in domestic violence refuges.

Focus Ireland services across the country provide support to over 12,500 people, not all of whom were homeless, many were seeking support to avoid becoming homeless. On Shine a Light Night companies across the country  bed down in work for one night to help raise the vital funds to allow Focus Ireland to continue this vital work.
