Story
In June, Raleigh International will send me out to Nicaragua as part of the government-funded International Citizen Service volunteering scheme, which helps to make a difference where it’s most needed.
Before I go, I need to raise £800 to give young volunteers like me the chance to make a direct contribution to the fight against poverty. I’ve been set a fundraising deadline of just TWO WEEKS. If I do not reach this target, I will be unable to go. As well as organising events, I'll attempt to 'Live Below The Line': live on just £5 for five days, including all food and drink.
If you sponsor me you will be helping me to make a valuable, sustainable difference in one of the world’s poorest communities. These communities have all asked for the help provided, so you can be sure that every penny you donate will go towards making a worthwhile difference.
Over the ten weeks that I am in Nicaragua, I will be part of a group of around 12 young people - volunteers both from the UK and Nicaragua - working with local communities to help tackle issues around education, health, livelihoods, strengthening civil society and the environment. We will be doing things like running health workshops, installing gravity water feed systems and working with the local community on any major issues that they may have. The country is one of the hemisphere’s poorest, facing massive unemployment and huge external debt. The help we provide will have a lasting positive impact on the communities we are placed in.
