Story

The children's A&E department at the John Radcliffe hospital is a small unit in the corner of the main A&E department, which treats 20,000 children a year for illness and accidents. Over the past two years we have been working hard to greatly improve the facilities for children and their families, making it a much more comfortable and child friendly place to be. All the these changes have come ab...out through people fundraising for the department, such as your 3 peaks challenge, although we still have many improvements to make.
A year ago we purchased a specially made television/DVD player on a stand, which has been extremely popular, as it instantly calms frightened and distressed children (and their parents). We would very much like to purchase another television like this, but one which has a taller stand and a tilting television, so when a patient is immobilised lying flat on their backs they will still be able to watch a film, rather than staring at the ceiling. Patients are immobilised in this way following accidents, where we suspect there may be spinal injury, and may stay immobilised for a couple of hours while waiting for examinations, X-rays and scans. This can be very boring and uncomfortable for the child, and really difficult for the child to stay still, so this television would make a huge difference. The original television cost £3600. The company also make the stands with an added games system such as a= play station, in a locked box, to prevent theft. A good selection of DVDs for all ages would also be fantastic.
The children's emergency department wishes you the best of luck with your challenge, and really appreciates your efforts in fundraising.
