Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
About 6 years ago my brother in law started bringing a
lovely young lady to our Christmas celebrations and everyone was hopeful and startled – hopeful that this could be the “one” and startled that she was so pretty given that Ian is blessed with a mop of bright ginger hair and Caroline was very clearly out of his league. This state of affairs continued for a few years with no announcements, much to the disappointment of my daughters who were desperate to be bridesmaids.
Then 3 years ago there was an announcement, only one that
none of us were expecting or wanting to hear – Caroline was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease, a type of lymphoma (cancer) and started a course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy to combat its spread. During the following two years Caroline experienced all the usual trials and tribulations that people dealing with cancer experience including crippling fatigue, seemingly constant nausea and the loss of her hair.
However, her will never wavered and with the excellent treatment she received from her oncologists she battled through it all and last
year was told that the disease was in complete remission. She still has
to go for regular tests (which I am sure must be very stressful) but at the moment the prognosis is extremely optimistic and to top off the good news Caroline and Ian are also getting married in May 2018 (although they haven’t yet announced the bridesmaids so possibly some drama yet to come)!
In support of the excellent treatment that Caroline received and to help the continued advances in the treatment of cancer I will be cycling
from Paris to London, starting tomorrow with some friends and approximately 200 other cyclists to raise money for the Bloodwise Charity, a charity targeting cancer research into all types of blood cancers such as Hodgkin’s and Leukaemia amongst many others. I am sure that you receive many requests for charitable donations but if you are not suffering from charitable fatigue and would like to sponsor me please click on the donate button.
With the cycle staring tomorrow I am a bit nervous as my training has not gone quite as planned. However, I am confident that I will complete the trip barring an accident and in those moments when the will
is lacking I will take my inspiration from the fortitude and bravery that
Caroline showed throughout her treatment.
Yours sincerely
