My beautiful Son Owen, 24, died in the Intensive Care Unit at Hurstwood Park on 2nd June 2011.

Owen was taken ill very suddenly and made a quick recovery after his first brain operation.  Within 48 hours he was out of intensive care and on the general surgical ward.  He was back to his usual cheeky self, telling all the Nurses he supported Arsenal!

After a few hours on the surgical ward, Owen had a relapse and a scan showed that he had a second bleed to his brain, requiring further surgery.  Unfortunately, this time he did not recover and on 2nd of June 2011,  we watched helplessly as our amazing boy was taken from us.

Owen gave so much pleasure in his short life.  He lived life to the full and made me and many others smile every single day of his life ...................... what a legacy.

Hurstwood Park were fabulous throughout.  I am trying to raise money for them so here is a little about them.

Hurstwood Park moved to Haywards Heath in 1941, when it was evacuated during the Second World War from the National Hospital of Neurology, Queens Square, London.  It has now become one of the leading centres of brain Treatment in the country, and is the the only operating hospital in the whole of the South East of England.

There was a great fear of Hurstwood Park being closed and moved to The Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.  A petition was launched, backed by The Argus Newspaper 'Save our Surgery' campaign, which was of course successful and Hurstwood Park now moves from strength to strength, receiving a massive facelift costing 2.25 million pounds, and the grounds have beautiful gardens for the benefit of Patients and Relatives alike, to enjoy, all sponsored by the League of Friends, through kind public donations.

There are now 5 Neurosurgeons and 4 Neurologists on call at Hurstwood Park and a few years ago a new twin operating theatre was opened to replace the old theatre.

The Centre not only deals with brain tumours, aneurysms, strokes and of course injuries from road traffic accidents, but also illnesses such as multiple sclerosis, alzheimers disease, motor neurone disease and all other problems to the brain.

In spite of all their knowledge and dedication, and indeed loving care, the Staff at Hurstwood Park were unable to save Owen.

I hope that by helping them to raise money to help others, another young man like Owen, may survive.

My intention is to lose at least 6 stone in weight over the coming months. I will be plotting my progress at the end of my story.  I hope that many of you will support me along this difficult road.  I know as I see the total rising, it will spur me on and give me added incentive to succeed.

Thank you once again for bothering to read my page.  Please support me and Hurstwood Park, in memory of our fabulous Owen xxx
