Story
I'm overwhelmed by your generosity, and never expected to raise this amount, so a huge thank you to you all. It makes it quite hard to give you the news that the bike didn't make it to Land’s End.
Having spent many hours working on various mechanical
elements of the bike, it was an unforeseen electrical problem that put paid to
my trip. After a great start (reaching
Edinburgh before 9am), the engine cut out fairly suddenly, thankfully near a
garage and so a safe place to stop. Two
hours of Google searching, mobile phone calls and taxi rides saw me with a new
battery in hand and fitting it to the bike.
This got me another 200 miles, to very nearly the half-way point, but
the engine died again, and it simply wasn't safe to continue. I did complete the journey to Land’s End, but
in one of the event support vans, and arrived at about 3am on the Sunday
morning.
Obviously I am bitterly, bitterly disappointed but I know I
did everything I possibly could on the day, and without a doubt I will be
taking part in next year’s event, which I will finish.
Thank you again.
