We believe that all pets should have access to veterinary care – regardless of their owners’ financial situation. Over 100 years, we’ve helped more than 20 million sick and injured pets – providing life-saving vet care to more vulnerable pets than any other animal charity in the UK today.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

You can sponsor Max on his weight loss journey here. All donations will help PDSA treat the thousands of sick and injured pets our vets and nurses see each day.

Introducing Max

Max is a late entrant to Pet Fit Club but is more than a suitable candidate! The two-year-old portly labrador used to enjoy scoffing pigs’ ears but all that is about to change. His owners have cut out the treats and are now ensuring he sticks closely to a strict diet set out by vets and nurses at Kirkdale PDSA PetAid hospital, who are overseeing a specially tailored weight loss programme for the obese family pet.

Weight story

Max was spoiled by his owners who spoiled him by dishing out regular treats and extra portions. He piled on the pounds and this got gradually worse after he was neutered. His owner Joanne, said: “In the past we’ve probably been guilty of giving Max too many treats but we’ve cut all that out now we’ve realised what harm it’s doing him.”

Vital Stats

Current weight: 53.8kg

% overweight: 58%

Ideal weight: 34kg

Bad habits

Max has been known to sulk for days if he doesn’t get his favorite treat

PDSA Vet Advice

Sean Wensley, PDSA Senior Veterinary Surgeon, said: “Excess pounds can contribute to a number of serious health conditions and, sadly, it does reduce life expectancy. But the good news is that it’s never too late to make positive changes to a pet’s diet and lifestyle.”
